As a senior mentor, my role is to guide the younger generation to help them prepare for the future that lies ahead of them in high school as well as the world. I feel as though I have helped a particular freshman of mine, somewhat of a sister relationship. This young lady is very determined, intelligent, and well rounded but lets the small things and people get in her way. When I sit down with her every week, we talk about school and friends and the average teenage life. She opens up to me and tells me about boys, friends, and all the high school stuff that causes distractions. Being a mentor, I can not give advice but I can guide them in the right direction. I tell her how I would handle the situation and what she can do to avoid those things. Therefore, I can only hope she takes what I tell her and applies it but if not I still feel like I made a difference.

Good deeds and maturity

Hmmm. Senior mentors can't give advice, but can steer students in the right direction. Aren't they the same thing? Why can't you give advice?
ReplyDeleteIt is just a rule when being a senior mentor that you cannot give your freshmen advice. They need to come up with their own choices withouht the mentors picking it for them or influencing them. I do not really understand it either but it is just a rule and the mentors just follow it, well probablly not but we are suppose to.
ReplyDeleteI think you are one of the best mentors they picked because you always come to school with a positive attitude. Even if you're in a bad mood, you cover it up. That's something a lot of people need to learn how to do because otherwise they aren't going to make it in life.
