Current Events

As most people know, I am a huge baseball fan, and know a lot about the topic and the Phillies. Therefore, Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Scott Eyre retires after thirteen seasons in the majors at age 37. Eyre played for the Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Phillies. Scott Eyre knew he would either finish his career out this year with the Phillies or retire, and he chose to retire. He was given a two million dollar contract to renew with the Phillies or move down to the minors but Eyre claims that regardless of the money or team he would have denied them. He accomplished enough during his career and could have asked for a better season with the Phils in 2008, winning the World Series as well as going to the World Series again in 2009. This summer Eyre hopes to spend time with his wife and children and just enjoy his retirement. Someday he hopes to be a part of the Phillies franchise in some sort of way, if not, possibly become a broadcaster, but for now he is content.

  1. How amazing to be under forty and have the resources to retire. I wonder what he'll do? Imagine having him a little league coach. A few generations ago, the average pro baseball player was paid roughly the equivalent of what teachers got paid. I guess those days are long gone!
